To err is human, to not accept that you have erred is foolish, to not learn from the mistake committed is worse and to commit the same mistake again is unacceptable.
To forgive is divine...however to be forgiven one will have to wait for long time as I dont think divinity exists on earth.
If one commits a mistake, (which is only natural and completely acceptable), one should expect to be punished and accept the punishment as that will help in not committing the same mistake again. It is generally difficult to remember one's mistakes but even more difficult to forget the punishment after the mistakes.
So if one does not want to repeat a mistake, the easiest way would be to take on a punishment for the mistake which one would not easily forget.
